Who We Are

Project Heads

Fernando P. Siringan, PhD
Project Leader
Marine Science Institute (MSI),
University of the Philippines-Diliman

Dr. Siringan is a coastal and marine geologist. He has been involved in a wide array of research projects including harmful algal blooms, paleo-climate reconstructions, coastal erosion, submarine groundwater discharge, and geophysical mapping of mesophotic corals. For more than two decades, he has spearheaded research on coastal erosion. He is also the current Director of the UP MSI.

Caroline Marie B. Jaraula, PhD
Project Staff
OASIS Geochem Laboratory
Marine Science Institute, UPDiliman

Dr. Jaraula worked on coastal and marine processes for her master’s and doctorate studies. Her laboratory is focused on the organic geochemistry of sediments in mangrove forests and seagrass beds. With her technical expertise, she has been providing valuable content to the project, particularly to the policy review aspect. She is also a faculty of the MSI in UP Diliman.

Cherry L. Ringor, PhD
Project Staff
EARTH’s MAP Laboratory
Institute of Environmental Science and Meteorology, UPDiliman

Dr. Ringor was taking up her MS Geology at the National Institute of Geological Sciences (NIGS), UP Diliman when she first became involved in the coastal erosion study of La Union, under Dr. Siringan. As part of the Sagip Baybay PH team, she is contributing her technical expertise to refine the content of the communication, education, public awareness (CEPA) materials being produced. Her current research work includes paleoclimate studies, coastal geology, and nanotechnology. She is also a faculty of the IESM, UP Diliman.

Yvainne Sta. Maria, Research associate

Ms. Sta Maria is working on her dissertation on sea level rise and coastal erosion in the Philippines at the UP IESM. She is the senior research associate of the project. She coordinates the tasks and deliverables of the Sagip Baybay PH team.

Ms. Manglicmot is a BS Chemistry and MS Environmental Science graduate of UP Diliman. Her research work includes reconstruction of paleoenvironments and storm events. She mainly manages the Sagip Baybay PH website and carries out field visits to different stakeholders with the rest of the team.

Joanne B. Constantino, SRA

Ms. Constantino is a BS Development Communication major in Science Communication graduate of UP Los Baños. She is also a licensed real estate broker.
